Three weeks ago, police intercepted a bus crying women along the Malindi-Kilifi road, arrested and briefly detained them. They were attending the Team Embrace meeting at Karisa Maitha Grounds in Kilifi.
The police said that they were acting on intelligence information that the Team Embrace from Magarini had been hired to heckle Kilifi County Woman Representative, Gertrude Mbeyu. There were reports of power struggle between Gertrude Mbeyu and her archrival Juliet Riziki alias Kachachawa. The two had been engaged in bitter squabbles during the preparation of the meeting.
The over 300 women detained by police are now up in arms against Hon Mbeyu, blaming her for the ordeal they went through.
In a statement to the media, they condemned the Kilifi Women legislator for the harassment they experienced and urged Governor Amason Kingi to address their now poor relationship with the leader supposed to represent them in the National Assembly.
The women subjected to this undue harassment included the elderly who are now traumatized by the horrible experience when they were temporarily detained.
